this morning on the kron 4 morning news. fort hood is the scene of another shooting. the suspected gunman -- an iraq war veteran being treated for ptsd the military says he opened fire at the texas military base, the nation's largest.killing three people and wounding 16 others before killing himself. officials do not believe the incident is terror- related.

polo sandoval is live at fort hood with the latest information. 4 people are dead, 16 others injured, after a gunman opened fire at fort hood. the tragedy played out in a community that was hit by the same violence just five years ago. polo sandoval is there with the story. the sprawling army base in fort hood texas is yet again the scene of a shooting. this time, authorities say an army specialist killed three people before turning his gun on himself. 16-others were wounded. the base commander says specialist ivan lopez opened fire in one building, then driving to a second building. military police caught up to him as he started shooting in that second building. lieutenant general mark milley says lopez took his own life when one of the military police officers confronted him. "it was clearly heroic what she did at that moment in time, and she did her job, and she did exactly what we would expect of a united states military police" ivan lopez had only been stationed at fort hood since february, and had previously served four months in iraq. military officials say lopez was being treated for depression and anxiety, and was being evaluated for

post-traumatic stress disorder. "obviously, we are digging fifth deep into his background, any criminal or psychiatric off history, his experiences in combat." fast fan neighbors tried to console lopez's wife. "she was worried and she was crying, and she had a little girl with her, and i tried to console her and comfort her and let her know that everything was ok." as far as i knew he was a nice guy guy. he always smiled and waved. and that's about it. the shooting bears a sad resemblance to the 2009 mass shooting at fort hood. when major nidal hasan killed 13-people. and injured 32 others. he's now on death row. president obama says the government will get to the bottom of what happened in the shooting at fort hood.

welcome back to the kron4 morning news. dublin police, with surveillance pictures of a man who robbed a shell gas station last week. it happened on dougherty road right before midnight. the man had a black bag, baseball bat and red plastic gas can. he threatened to burn the gas station down if the clerk did not give him money, then took off in a ford fusion with an unknown amount of cash. only on kron-4. an a-t-m is left near a creek in lafayette. and police are investigating exactly where it came from. kron-4's philippe djegal was the only reporter to see it all. >>:it takes two contra costa county sheriff's deputies to hail this atm into the back of the truck. mahan

and police are investigating exactly where it came from. and how it got there. kron-4's philippe djegal was the only reporter to see it all. it takes two contra costa county sheriff's deputies to hail this atm into the back of the truck. the sheriff's office says a passerby reported the atn sunday night i'm this ditch off reliez valley road in from the diocese of oakland youth retreat center. due to miscommunication between public works and the sheriff's office, the atm wasn't picked up until wednesday afternoon. and, once located, you can see, it has been broken open -- no cash found inside. this also follows days of rain, possibly washing some evidence away. the walnut creek police department says its actively investigating a stolen atm taken from this shell gas station off mount diablo blvd. last month. weeks later, concord police say an atm was reported stolen here from the farm bureau market off farm bureau market road. we spoke with the owner who

this is mount hamilton east of san jose. it got about three-inches of snow in the latest storm. locals tell us snowstorms seem to be fewer and farther between in recent years -- with much less snow. but there was more than enough to lure michael murphy and his daughter, maryanne away from the city for a spring- break getaway. the superintendent of the lick observatory says, this was just the third time mount hamilton got any measurable snow this season. in years past, he says there have been as many as six days of snowfall.

in other world news: no new major damage is being reported following a powerful 7-point-6- magnitude aftershock. which came a day after this larger 8-point-2-magnitude quake caused six deaths and damaged thousands of homes. authorities there have issued a new tsunami alert. and are telling people to keep out of low-lying areas near the coast. right now there is no tsunami threat to u-s coastal states. we spoke with the u-s-g-s about the quake, the subsequent tsunami warning, and the impact both could have here in the bay area.

a key player in suspended state senator leland yee's corruption case walk free -- for a while, at least -- if he gets his way today. keith jackson is due in court later this morning for a bond hearing related to his possible release on

bail. the former san francisco school board president is accused of funneling campaign money to yee in exchange for political favors. plus making deals for drugs and guns. and a murder-for-hire plot. another key figure, raymond 'shrimp boy' chow, now has a lawyer. as kron 4's dan kerman tells us, the lawyer was once in charge of fighting organized crime. one week after he was arrested raymond shrimpboy chow, the central figure in a federal corruption investigation has a court appointed lawyer? she?s martha boersch, a former federal prosecutor who served as chief of the organized crime strike force court documents say chow has an extensive criminal

history and while it appears he was the initial focus of the undercover investigation, court documents say it was through chow that political consultant keith jackson and suspended state senator leland yee came into contact with undercover fbi agents. chow is accused of money laundering, conspiracy to receive and transport stolen property and conspiracy to traffic in contraband cigarettes. chow's attorney says that?s because of the way the undercover investigation was conducted. we've also learned that state senator leland yee has changed attorneys. san francisco lawyer james lassart will now represent him. lassart is a former assistant u.s. attorney, who coordinated the northwest region of the president's organized crime drug enforcement task force.

defense department to find it and fix it. anytime you lose any of your people to these kinds of tragedies there's an issue, there's a problem. we don't have the facts. we will get the facts and when we have those facts specifically about fort hood we'll address them. we're also hearing from the suspect's neighbor. she says she did not see this coming. as far as i knew he was a nice guy guy. he always smiled and waved. and that's about it. typical average family. they were always coming and going. they'd smile whenever they'd see someone and that was it.

authorities gave the all- clear at kent state university, after a gunman fired a bullet into the ground near a classroom building wednesday night. the gunshot apparently followed a dispute between a man and a woman. ten police agencies and a swat team responded. some buildings were put in lock-down mode while others were evacuated. the man was later arrested off-campus. five people have been arrested following an attack on a homeless man at a park in campbell last month. a 16-year-old boy was

stabbed to death during the fight. kron 4 spoke with the homeless man who was originally taken into custody following the stabbing. he was released after prosecutors found he had acted in self defense against ivan diaz. campbell police released photos of all five suspects -- allegedly associated with the sureno gang. two of them are minors but will be charged as adults. they face murder charges under the state's "provocative act doctrine" -- even though it was the stabbd diaz. san jose state will host another public hate crime task force meetings today. a day after a big announcement. the school has fired 18 resident advisors across several dorms -- with only seven weeks left in the school year. school officials say, the r-

on a bay area freeway. the c-h-p says the crash happened last night in santa clara -- on northbound 101, near the great american parkaway. usa driver called 9-1-1 to report hitting that pedestrian just before nine o'clock last night. the call came minutes after other calls from drivers who saw the person walking on the ffreeway. no word on if the driver who hit the victim is in any trouble. also new this morning. police in pacifica are asking for the public's help in find a missing women suffering from dementia

68-year-old alicia vitug was last seen walking in the area of cypress street and glen court way. she is described as a 5- foot-1-inch asian woman, about 115 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. she was last seen wearing a white fleece sweater and black pants. police say vitug has been known to enter unlocked cars and urge residents to check backyards and cars officials in contra costa county have identified the body of a man found inside a car that was overturned and underwater in pittsburg.

an appeals court says a family can proceed with a lawsuit that claims a woman was frozen alive in a los angeles hospital freezer after she was mistakenly declared dead. didn't arroyo was placed in the freezer in july 2010. her body was later found face down, with a broken nose and cuts and bruises to her face. the family attorney says this is a case he has never seen before. a trial date has not yet been set. a spokesperson for the hospital says they can't comment on the matter, since it's in litigation. the family initially sued for mishandling of the body but refiled the case two years ago after a pathologist concluded the
